Description
The term MythBusters refers to both the hit Science show and the cast members who star in it. The show was created by Peter Rees and produced by Australia's Beyond Television Productions for the Discovery Channel. Filming mostly takes place in San Francisco, however some elements of production are done in Artarmon, Australia... not too far from where I did my Diploma in Interactive Digital Media actually.
The series was first pitched by Rees in 2002, under the name Tall Tales or True? after some refinement, the show became MythBusters. The premise of MythBusters being the scientific testing of various aspects of popular beliefs, urban legends, movie scenes, internet rumours, and other myths. Myths are either confirmed, plausible, or busted. This process has over the years involved many complex rigs and awesome explosions.
MythBusters first aired in 2003, hosted by Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage. Initially Jamie and Adam tested myths using their special effects knowledge, working out of Jamie's effects workshop, M5 Industries. Jamie's staff usually worked behind the scenes, but as the series progressed three staff members - artist Kari Byron, builder Tory Belleci, and metal-worker Scottie Chapman - were introduced and began to appear regularly. During the Second Season, they were organised into a second team of MythBusters, called the build team (or just B-Team.) During Season Three Scottie Chapman left the show, and was replaced by Grant Imahara, and electronics and robotics expert. At the end of 2014 it was announced that Tory Grant and Kari would be leaving the show, making Jamie and Adam once again the sole hosts for Season 13.
MythBuster is one of the Discovery Channal's oldest series still in production, and is by far its most popular.
